Aromatherapy essential oils for massage

What this treatment involves

Aromatherapy massage combines a gentle, flowing massage with essential oils blended into the carrier oil. The massage itself is closer to relaxation massage than to deep tissue work — light to medium pressure, unhurried, moving across the body.

The oils are chosen with you at the start, based on what you find pleasant. Scent preference is genuinely personal, and an oil you dislike will not be relaxing no matter what it is traditionally associated with, so the choice is led by what appeals to you on the day.

The essential oils are always diluted in a carrier oil, never applied neat to the skin.

This treatment is offered for its calming, sensory experience. No therapeutic or medicinal claims are made for the oils used.

Who books this treatment

  • Anyone who finds scent genuinely calming and wants that as part of the treatment.
  • Clients who want a gentle, restful massage rather than firm work.
  • People booking a treatment as a break rather than to address a specific ache.
  • Anyone who enjoys relaxation massage and would like an added sensory dimension.

Pressure and technique

Light to medium and consistent — this is a gentle treatment by design. If you want firmer work, deep tissue or remedial massage is the better choice.

You can ask for more time on any area, and for the conversation to stop entirely if you would rather drift.

What to expect, and how to prepare

  • A brief consultation about your general wellbeing, preferences and any relevant health considerations — including allergies, skin sensitivities and pregnancy, all of which affect oil selection.
  • You will be asked which scents you like. There are no wrong answers.
  • You are draped with towels throughout, with only the area being worked on uncovered.
  • Available as 60 minutes at $100.

Before you book — safety and precautions

  • Tell Lee before your treatment begins about any injuries, recent surgery, pregnancy, skin conditions, medications such as blood thinners, or ongoing medical conditions. This is what allows the treatment to be adjusted safely for you.
  • Postpone your appointment if you are unwell, feverish or have an infection. Let Lee know beforehand if you have a skin infection or open wound in the area to be treated, a clotting disorder, or are currently under treatment for a serious medical condition.
  • Massage is not a substitute for medical care and is not used here to diagnose any condition. If you have undiagnosed or worsening pain, please see your doctor.

Afterwards

  • The scent will linger on your skin for a while, which most people enjoy. If you would rather it did not, you can shower later in the day.
  • Drink water and avoid rushing straight into something demanding.
  • Let Lee know if you notice any skin irritation afterwards, so a different blend can be used next time.
  • Essential oils and strong sun exposure do not always mix well — it is worth keeping treated skin out of direct sun for the rest of the day.

Frequently asked questions

What essential oils do you use?+

The blend is chosen with you at the start based on what you find pleasant, and is always diluted in a carrier oil rather than applied neat. Tell Lee about any allergies, skin sensitivities or pregnancy, as these affect which oils are suitable.

Is aromatherapy massage firm or gentle?+

Gentle by design — light to medium pressure with flowing strokes, closer to relaxation massage. If you want firmer work, deep tissue or remedial massage is a better fit.

Can I have aromatherapy massage if I'm pregnant?+

Tell Lee when you book that you are pregnant and how far along you are, as some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy and the treatment and positioning may need adjusting.

What if I don't like strong scents?+

Then this may not be the treatment for you, and relaxation massage would be a better choice. Alternatively a very light blend can be used — just say so at the start.

Do the oils treat anything?+

No claims are made about the oils treating any condition. This treatment is offered for its calming, sensory experience.
