Calm candle-lit spa setting for ear candling

What this treatment involves

Ear candling is a traditional practice in which a hollow cone is held gently at the outer ear while you lie still and relax. It runs for 30 minutes and costs $50.

Clients book it because it is calm, quiet and unusually restful. Lying still for half an hour with nothing to do is a large part of the appeal, and we would rather be straightforward about that than dress it up.

Who books this treatment

  • Clients who have had ear candling before and find it relaxing.
  • Anyone curious about a traditional relaxation practice, with realistic expectations about what it is.
  • People who would like a short, restful treatment rather than a full massage.

Pressure and technique

None — this is not a pressure-based treatment. You lie still and comfortably on your side.

Tell Lee at any point if you feel uncomfortable, warm or uneasy and the treatment will stop.

What to expect, and how to prepare

  • What this treatment is offered for: relaxation, and nothing more. We do not claim that ear candling removes earwax, treats infections, improves hearing, clears sinuses, removes toxins, or diagnoses or treats any health condition. Any provider telling you otherwise is overstating it.
  • Ear candling is not suitable for everyone. It will not be performed if you have a perforated or grommeted eardrum, an ear infection, recent ear surgery, hearing implants, a current ear injury, or tubes fitted. It is also not offered for children.
  • If you have earwax build-up, hearing loss, ear pain, discharge, ringing or any ear symptom, please see your GP or an audiologist. That is a medical matter and ear candling is not the answer to it.
  • A brief consultation first covers your general wellbeing and any ear-related history.

Before you book — safety and precautions

  • Tell Lee before your treatment begins about any injuries, recent surgery, pregnancy, skin conditions, medications such as blood thinners, or ongoing medical conditions. This is what allows the treatment to be adjusted safely for you.
  • Postpone your appointment if you are unwell, feverish or have an infection. Let Lee know beforehand if you have a skin infection or open wound in the area to be treated, a clotting disorder, or are currently under treatment for a serious medical condition.
  • Massage is not a substitute for medical care and is not used here to diagnose any condition. If you have undiagnosed or worsening pain, please see your doctor.

Afterwards

  • Get up slowly — you may feel very relaxed.
  • See your doctor promptly if you notice any ear discomfort, pain, discharge or change in hearing after the treatment.
  • There is no ongoing aftercare required.

No claims are made about any of these. This treatment is offered for relaxation only. Any ear, hearing or sinus concern should be assessed by a doctor.
