Thai Massage in Sippy Downs

Traditional Thai massage combines rhythmic pressure with assisted stretching, performed on a clothed body without oil. It tends to feel active and mobilising rather than purely restful.

Appointments take place in our private home-based treatment studio in Sippy Downs.

What this treatment involves

Thai massage is quite different to the oil massage most people picture. You stay clothed in loose, comfortable clothing, and the work is done through a combination of rhythmic compression, palm and thumb pressure along the body, gentle rocking, and assisted stretching where Lee moves your limbs into supported positions for you.

It works along the whole body rather than concentrating on one area, moving through the feet and legs, hips, back, shoulders, arms, neck and head. Because you are moved and stretched as part of the treatment, it often feels closer to being taken through a slow, passive yoga sequence than to lying still for an hour.

The rhythm is deliberate and unhurried. There is no rushing between areas, and the pressure builds gradually rather than arriving all at once.

Who books this treatment

  • People who feel generally stiff and restricted rather than sore in one specific spot.
  • Anyone who sits at a desk all day and wants their hips, back and shoulders moved as well as worked on.
  • Clients who find oil massage pleasant but not quite enough, and want something more active.
  • People who prefer to stay clothed during a treatment.
  • Anyone curious about traditional Thai technique who has only had Western-style massage before.

Pressure and technique

Thai massage uses broad, firm pressure applied with palms, thumbs, forearms and sometimes feet, rather than the concentrated fingertip work of deep tissue massage. Because the pressure is spread over a larger area, it can feel firm without feeling sharp.

The stretching component is always supported and always within your available range. Lee will take you to the point of a comfortable stretch, not past it. Tell Lee immediately if any position feels wrong, pinching or unstable — that is useful information, not a complaint.

Pressure and stretch depth are both adjustable at any point during the session.

What to expect, and how to prepare

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in — leggings or tracksuit pants and a t-shirt are ideal. Avoid jeans, belts and anything restrictive.
  • Try not to eat a heavy meal in the hour or so beforehand, since the treatment involves compression and twisting through the abdomen and hips.
  • Your first appointment begins with a brief consultation about your general wellbeing, treatment preferences, areas of tension and any relevant health considerations.
  • Appointments take place in a private, self-contained home-based treatment studio in Sippy Downs — you come to the studio.

Before you book — safety and precautions

  • Tell Lee before your treatment begins about any injuries, recent surgery, pregnancy, skin conditions, medications such as blood thinners, or ongoing medical conditions. This is what allows the treatment to be adjusted safely for you.
  • Postpone your appointment if you are unwell, feverish or have an infection. Let Lee know beforehand if you have a skin infection or open wound in the area to be treated, a clotting disorder, or are currently under treatment for a serious medical condition.
  • Massage is not a substitute for medical care and is not used here to diagnose any condition. If you have undiagnosed or worsening pain, please see your doctor.

Afterwards

  • Drink water and give yourself a little time before rushing into something demanding.
  • It is common to feel a mild, general looseness or slight tenderness for a day afterwards, particularly after a first Thai massage. That usually settles quickly.
  • Gentle movement the following day tends to feel better than complete rest.
  • If anything felt genuinely painful rather than firm, or you have unusual discomfort afterwards, let Lee know so the next treatment can be adjusted.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to a Thai massage?+

Loose, comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in — leggings or tracksuit pants and a t-shirt work well. Thai massage is performed on a clothed body, so avoid jeans, belts and anything restrictive.

Is Thai massage performed with oil?+

Traditionally, no. Thai massage uses rhythmic pressure and assisted stretching on a clothed body. Oil is used for other treatments such as relaxation, aromatherapy, hot stone and deep tissue massage.

What is the difference between Thai massage and deep tissue massage?+

Thai massage works along the whole body with broad pressure and assisted stretching, clothed and without oil, and feels active and mobilising. Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer, localised pressure with oil to work into deeper muscle layers in a specific area.

Does Thai massage hurt?+

It should feel firm and sometimes intense, but never painful. All pressure and every stretch is adjustable, and Lee will check in during the treatment. Say something the moment anything feels sharp or wrong.

How much does Thai massage cost in Sippy Downs?+
